We are glad you are considering joining our faculty! Our students are a pleasure to work with, and this job is very rewarding.
Minimum Qualifications
The first step is to make sure you meet the minimum qualifications for teaching in our discipline, “biological sciences” at a California Community College, specifically here at CCC.
If you possess the following, you are able to teach any course associated with the “biological sciences” discipline in a CA Community College
Master’s in any biological science; OR Bachelor’s in any biological science AND Master’s in biochemistry, biophysics, or marine science; OR the equivalent
If your degree does not match the above exactly, you must use an equivalency form to show how your qualifications align with the state qualifications.
Download and USE THIS FORM. You fill out page 3, and then submit with your application
Here at CCC’s biology department, we have 3 options to demonstrate equivalency
Option 1: BA/BS degree in a discipline or related discipline as specified in the Board of Governor’s List of Disciplines, or the following disciplines: Nutrition, Ecology, Animal Science, Physiology, Microbiology, Zoology, Pharmacology, Botany, Molecular and Cell and Developmental Biology, Biotechnology, Biomedical Science AND 30 additional semester units in a field of biological science beyond baccalaureate degree of which at least 75% must be at the graduate level and the remainder must be at the upper division level.
Option 2: BA/BS degree in a Life or Physical Science discipline AND a minimum of 30 additional semester units in a field of biological science beyond baccalaureate degree of which at least 75% must be at the graduate level and the remainder must be at the upper division level.
Option 3: BA/BS in a Life or Physical or Biological science AND a Master’s, Ph.D., M.D., Chiropractic Doctor, or DVM that includes a minimum of 30 additional semester units in a field of biological science beyond baccalaureate degree of which at least 75% must be at the graduate level and the remainder must be at the upper division level.

Teaching biotechnology isn’t quite the same as teaching academic biology courses! You’ll be focusing on getting students ready for real work in a life science lab as soon as possible. Think of it as “biology plus!” Students need both a strong foundation in science, chemistry, and biology – but also require an understanding of the industry they are getting into and its specific requirements for the workforce.
Biotechnology courses at CCC are how we provide that preparation here.
